Transitional Services

Planning. We begin planning for a student's transition home when he first comes to Timber Ridge School. With the student, we identify his projected placement and outline a transition process. We review this plan 4 times each year, making changes that might be necessary.

Activities. There are many activities that are used to help a student in his return home. These include:

* More frequent visits home as transition gets closer. Both the student and his family have to learn to live with each other again.
* More independence in recreational and leisure activities in the community settings.
* More financial responsibility through holding a job. Work study opportunities, regular employment on campus, and off campus employment are available.
* More responsibility for scheduling daily activities and for meeting responsibilities on time. This involves leisure activities, meals, bed times, waking up without assistance, etc.

After a student leaves Timber Ridge School, continued support is provided on an individually determined basis. This includes such elements as family counseling, family support groups, telephone consultation, etc. All are designed to make sure that the hard work done by the student continues to be shown in the community.
